Here are 7 Fall Home Maintenance Tips for Your Home!

1. Landscaping

Starting outside, let’s first do some landscaping. Now is the time to fertilize your lawn, and give it a nice seeding. You’ll want to get rid of any dead plants and prune your trees and shrubs too.

2. Gutters

Next, you’ll want to keep an eye on your gutters. Keeping them clear prevents them from overflowing and limits trapped moisture that can cause rotting. You’ll want to make sure they are firmly attached as well for when snow eventually comes.

3. Downspouts

Outside, you’ll want to make sure your downspouts are clear. Make sure water flows with down the downspouts unobstructed, with the flow taking the water away from the house

4. Chimney

While we’re on the topic of the roof, it might be smart to have your chimney inspected. Make sure there is a tight seal to prevent animals from getting in, and you also might consider having your flue tested. If you have a wood-burning fireplace, a professional cleaning might be in order.

5. Windows

Next, let’s check on our windows and doors. Prep your home against the coming cold by caulking and weather stripping anywhere that needs it. Repairs loose and damaged window and door frames, and check the seal. And while you're at it, check the screens for any tears.

6. HVAC

After that, your HVAC system could use some attention. This may be the time to replace your filter, and if it’s been a while, an inspection and a cleaning of the ducts could make a big difference, especially if you suffer from asthma or allergies.

7. Plumbing

Finally, winterize your plumbing. If you have any outdoor pipes, winterize them with insulation to prevent them from bursting. If you ever do have an issue with a burst pipe, you should also note where your shutoff valve is.
