Buying a home is one of the biggest decisions you will make in your lifetime. Whether it's for yourself or as an investment, there are many questions that you must ask and things to look into before accepting a deal. Let's go over Questions Must You Ask Before Buying a Home.
What is your budget?
Vague assumptions won’t do, which is why we always recommend our buyer clients get pre-approved. Your budget should include closing costs, property taxes, homeowners insurance, homeowners association dues, ongoing home maintenance, and renovations.
Why is the seller moving?
Knowing why they are moving can indicate their level of urgency for the sale, which affects the caliber of negotiation that you can bring to the table. Motivated sellers will typically be quicker to make a deal.
What work have they done on the house?
Ask for the original manufacturer warranties on any appliances or systems that have been replaced. And it can be a great idea to get a home inspection done to know the state the home is in. You don’t want to move in just to find out you need to fork out thousands of dollars to replace the roof or other big fixes.
What’s included in the sale of the home?
While there are exclusion and inclusion boxes to tick, so always double-check if these items will stay or not before signing on to buy your new house.
These are only some of the dozens of questions we ask for our buyer clients. Make sure to educate yourself on the home and neighbourhood and other key things.
