You're about to cross the finish line of the home buying process! This is Step 9 of the Home Buying Process... Closing Day!
So, what is closing day? It's the day when the deal is complete and you take ownership of the home.
What needs to happen on or before closing day?
You have the option to do a final walk-though if you want on closing day.
And then there will be a fair bit of tedious paperwork that will need to be taken care of. The bank will get you several documents to sign. These documents are about your mortgage and the purchase of your new home. The lawyer is going to bring these documents to you and explain them to you. You will need to give the lawyer the money for the down payment and closing costs, so they can close the purchase.
What happens after the lawyer receives your payment?
After you've paid the lawyer, they will register the purchase at the Land Title Office. You will then be listed as the new owner of the property. The seller gets paid and you, the new homeowner, receive the home deed and the keys. You're now the owner of a new home!
How to Make Closing Day Easier
To make closing day easier, your lawyer may be able to prepare the necessary documents for you ahead of time. And he can give you the final figures a few days before the closing date too, and you can sign basically all these documents in advance.
So, now that you own the property, it's time to move on to the final step of the home buying process, which is celebrating your win and making the move.
