Vacation Homes: A Good Investment?

When you're buying a home, the purchase price is only one aspect of the tale. There are numerous other expenditures to consider, whether you're paying cash for it or taking out a mortgage. Property taxes, utilities, insurance, and maintenance are all common charges that can quickly add up. For example, property tax alone may easily raise house prices by 2% to 4% each year. These expenditures might be even greater for an older cottage or one with added facilities and fees.

There will be new signs in Sarnia later this year.

Before the year is out, new, simpler welcome signs will be in place at city entry points. The materials are presently being manufactured. A $132,000 waterfront sign with six-foot-tall light-up letters spelling "SARNIA" by Sarnia Bay is also due for installation before the year comes to an end.

Sarnia candidates meet and greet

Residents of Sarnia will have the opportunity to meet and chat with municipal election candidates on Tuesday. There are nine candidates running for four city/county councillor positions, and 25 people in the running for the four additional council seats.

Apartments planned for former movie theatre property

At a special meeting on Thursday, Sarnia city council voted to rezone and update the official plan for a vacant lot adjacent to Lambton College. The new plan will allow for the construction of six four-story apartment buildings, with a total of 324 one-, two- and threebedroom apartments. This project has been in the works for almost ten years.
